Notes for Frederick Charles Somerville Townsend
Frederick was born in Limerick and this was recorded by Agnes Townsend [334] in her diary - 'Aug 20 1878 Horace's third son born - Frederick Charles Somerville'.
Frederick emigrated to Canada some time before 1899. He served with the Canadian Contingent in the Second Boer War (1899-1902) after which he joined the Canadian Legion.
Frederick worked for the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company from 1911 to 1918 following which he moved to Vancouver. He returned to Consolidated in April 1938 and remained with the company until 1943 when he took up employment with the Trail-Tadanac Municipality.
An outstanding tennis and football player, in his later years Frederick took to playing golf; he was secretary of the Rossland-Trail golf club.
Frederick died shortly after admission to the Trail-Tadanac Hospital.
These details were provided by Alan Townshend Marriott of Glendora, California, grandson of Agnes Mary Townsend [366] and great nephew of Frederick.
