Married 1 September 1939. Lorna Lutton was the daughter of George Elliot Lutton of Portadown, Co Armagh.

Horace was educated at Haileybury and Trinity College, Dublin (BA 1939. MA 1946) and Westcott House, Cambridge 1944.

He was Curate Alrewas, Staffs 1946-48, Rector Hethersett, Norfolk 1948-50, Rector Bucklesham, Suffolk 1950-56, Vicar Rugeley, Staffs 1956-61, Vicar Cannock, Staffs 1961-68, Rector Lyng with Sparham, Norfolk 1968-74, Rector Bawdeswell and Foxley, Norfolk 1974-80, Hon Canon Norwich cathedral 1973 and Canon Emeritus 1981.
