Notes for Thomas Somerville Townshend
Thomas was born in MacDonald River area.
With his brother Richard Townsend [266], he left for Barraba, NSW, where they found work as drovers, because there was very little work to be had in the Wollombi area. (Thomas' uncle Richard Townsend [254] also moved to Barraba in about 1880 looking for work). In 1904 Thomas was appointed manager of Bective Station in Tamworth but how long he remained there is not known. He died unmarried in Queensland.
