Notes for Arthur Eric Townsend
Like his brother Francis Edward Steavenson Townsend [6C33], Arthur was commissioned into the 5th Battalion the Durham Light Infantry on 11 February 1915 (1); previously he served as a Trooper with the East Riding Yeomanry. He transferred to the Royal Flying Corps on 29 November 1916 (2) and was killed in action whilst flying.
There is a DLI memorial to him and his brother, Francis, in Christ Church, Eston, Cleveland (Grid ref NZ550190).
