Notes for Lucy Cuthbert Townsend
Lucy was bridesmaid to her first cousin Mary Elizabeth Townsend [6B14] on the occasion of her marriage to Major John Tuckey on 11 November 1862. In a letter dated 24 July 1874, John Tuckey wrote "The third (bridesmaid), who went off first, a bright pretty little thing, Lucy married a Mr Aiken, a partner in a Bank in Bristol and has a large family."
Married 28 March 1865. John Chetwode Chetwood-Aitken (1) of Stoke Bishop, Gloucestershire, was the son of Peter Freeland Aiken and Constantia Elizabeth Chetwood. See 1958 Edn Burke's Irish Family Records - Chetwood-Aitken.(2)
Lucy lived and died in Clifton, Bristol.

Walter Chetwood-Aitken was born in 8 February 1866 and died unmarried on 3 January 1899.
Major Harold Freeland Chetwode Chetwood-Aiken was born on 1 December 1868 and married Gladys Strickland Dunlop, daughter of Andrew Dunlop, on 24 June 1908. Educated at Clifton College, Bristol, Gloucestershire, he was commissioned into the East Surrey Regiment and saw active service in the Boer War and the First World War. He lived at the family home at Woodbrook, Portarlington, County Laois, Ireland and had a daughter:
Beatrice Chewode Chetwood-Aiken who was born on 25 October 1914.
Edward Hamilton Chetwode Chetwood-Aiken was born on 3 April 1869 and married Nina Rumsey, daughter of Lt Col Edward Waugh Rumsey, on 3 April 1902. Edward was educated at Haileybury College and Bristol University. He lived at Hillside, Combe Dingle, Gloucestershire and died on 4 January 1935 leaving at son:

Knightley Chetwode Chetwood-Aiken was born on 11 October 1870 and married Eileen George, daughter of William George, on 15 April 1902. He was educated at Haileybury College and Aberdeen University where he was awarded Bachelor of Medicine and Master in Surgery. Knightley died on 17 August 1939 leaving a son and a daughter:

Daphne Chetwood-Aiken who was born on 7 April 1906.
John Chetwode Chetwood-Aiken was born on 25 April 1873 and married Violet Ormonde Matthews, daughter of George Leonard Matthews, on 24 August 1911. John was educated at Marlborough College, and University College, Oxford, were he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts. He died on 3 March 1955 without issue.
Chetwode Chetwood-Aiken was born on 26 September 1874 and died in infancy.
Cuthbert Chetwood-Aiken was born on 1 June 1879 and died on 17 April 1880.
Hugh Chetwode Chetwood-Aiken was born on 3 July 1882 and married Margaret Goss on 23 July 1913. He died on 21 June 1951 without issue.
(1) John was born on 17 August 1835 and died on 8 February 1907. He was was a banker.
(2) The entry for Chetwood in the University of Galway Landed Estates Database records "The Chetwodes were settled at Woodbrook, Portarlington, Queen's County (county Laois) in the 18th century. Elizabeth Hester Chetwood, granddaugher of Crewe Chetwood, a younger brother of Valentine Knightley Chetwood of Woodbrook, married Robert Rogers Wilmot and had a son Edward Wilmot who took the name Chetwood in 1839. Edward W. Chetwood inherited the Woodbrook estate. In 1830 he married Lady Jean Janet Erskine, daughter of the Earl of Mar and they had 5 children. At the time of Griffith's Valuation Edward W. Chetwood held land in the parishes of Inch St Lawrence and Ludden, barony of Clanwilliam, county Limerick. Jonathon Chetwood owned land in these parishes in the 1810s and 1820s. In the 1870s Edward Wilmot Chetwood's estate in county Limerick amounted to 464 acres. In 1878 Knightley Jonathan Wilmot-Chetwode owned 683 acres in county Cork and 1,389 acres in Queen's County. The Chetwodes continued to live at Woodbrook until 1963. Woodbrook was for sale in 2009."
