Married 1st 27 October 1934 at St Bartholomew's Church, Clyde Road, Dublin. Harriet Hermione Mease was the daughter of Reverend Charles William O'Hara Mease (1), Dean of Chapel Royal, Dublin. The marriage was dissolved by divorce. Married 2nd 24 May 1969. Erma Nora Franks (Nonie) (2) was the youngest daughter of General Thomas William Franks.
Like his cousin Edward William Maunsell Townsend [6B43] who was but one month older than him, Hugh was educated at Sherborne and St John's College, Cambridge (BCh) He followed a career as an auctioneer and valuer.
