Notes for Edward Noel Hume Townshend
Edward was educated at Haileybury and trained as a solicitor.
Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant into the 39th (Lancashire Fusiliers) Anti Aircraft Battalion TA (1) on 13 January 1937, when he would have been 26, Edward was promoted to War Substantive Lieutenant on 22 October 1940 (2). It is not known where he served during the Second World War. He was promoted to Captain on 11 April 1945 (3) and retired from the Reserve of Officers on 1 August 1962 (4).
Edward married in 1940 and was living at The Croft, Little Hampden, Great Missenden, Berkshire in 1976.
The book 'Blackmore Vale Childhood' was written by 'Hilary Townsend' - is this Edward's wife?
