Notes for Susannah Elizabeth Townsend
Susannah was born in India. Her father, a member of the Indian Civil Service, was Secretary to the Bombay Government and later Revenue Commissioner to The Presidency.
Susannah was an invalid. For many years she was the South of Ireland Honorary Secretary of the South American Missionary Society. Her sister Katherine Townsend [638] was the Secretary for the North of Ireland.
Page 693 of The Calendar of Wills and Administration 1858-1922 in the National Archives of Ireland records that Probate of the will of "Susan Elizabeth Townsend of 4 South Cliff Street Tenby County Pembroke”, who died on 14 November 1915, was granted at London 7 March 1916 to "Edward HS Townsend". Resealed at Dublin 28 March 1916. Effects in Ireland £923 11s 3d. (Edward Hume Steele Townsend [642] – nephew of Susan)
