Notes for Maurice Philip Townshend

Married 1970 at Pett, East Sussex. Judith (1) was the daughter of Reverend Parkins who was the Vicar in Pett and conducted the marriage service.

Following preparatory school in Beckenham, Kent, Philip went to Sevenoaks School in Kent. On leaving school he took up mechanical engineering apprenticeship with a small local firm. In 1965, aged 30, he went to New Zealand on appointment as a Draughtsman in the Power Design Office of the Aviemore Dam hydro electric plant project. Philip remained there until 1968 when he returned to the UK and took up a job as a Draughtsman at the Plessey Marine Establishment at Templecombe, Somerset. He remained there for the rest of his working life and retired in 1999 as the Principal Designer for Royal Navy submarine underwater equipment.

(1). Judith was born on 8 April 1933 and died on 21 November 2014. She is buried in the Church of St Andrew, Ansford, Castle Cary, Somerset. A copy of the Order of Service at her funeral can be seen in Philip's Scrapbook.
