Notes for Florence Maria Townshend (Flossie)
Florence was born in Fonthill Road, Finsbury Park, London.
Educated at the same private school in Severn Sisters as her sister, Helena Townshend [5D40], and afterwards taking lessons in domestic economy, Florence joined her sisters in Paris in about 1895. There she helped run the boarding house that they set up and also gave private lessons.
After Katherine's health broke down in 1908 and Helena had given up the boarding house, Florence returned to England and went to live with her mother and sister Harriet at Branksome Park, Bournemouth. After 1910 when her mother died she went to live with Miss Mary Moncrieff to learn phrenology - it was not a success. When Mis Moncrieff died in 1928 Florence went to live with her sister Harriet Townsend [5D41] in her new home 'The Cabin', Lymington, Solent Avenue, Hampshire.
When sister Harriet died in 1945 Florence inherited 'The Cabin' and continued to live there until she developed severe arthritis and was forced to move into a nursing home.
