Notes for Elizabeth Henrietta Townshend
Elizabeth was born at the family property 'Summerville' in the Wollombi Valley, NSW, Australia.
Married 23 September 1863 at St John's Church Wollombi. James Richard Whinfield (1) was a superintendent/farmer.
Prior to her marriage Elizabeth was a governess at Blaxlands Arm, New South Wales, however after her marriage she and her husband scratched a living working on Mr Jenkins's property at Wollomol, near Tamworth, NSW, where James was the superintendent. From about 1888 it appears that they had their own property at 'The Myalls', Bective/Somerton. Some time shortly after 1880 they were joined by Elizabeth Henrietta's brother Richard Townsend [254] who was searching for work; however there was none for him so he moved on to Barraba, NSW.
Elizabeth died of pleurisy at Tamworth, NSW.
Of the children; Mary Whinfield married Roger Dobson, James Whinfield married Lucy Jenner, Agnes Somerville Whinfield married Robert Mulligan and Constance Whinfield married Mr McCulpine.
The information in this entry was provided by Daphne Barney grand-daughter of Elizabeth Henrietta (through Agnes Somerville) with additional material from Marjorie Laidler, grand-daughter of Charlotte Victoria Townshend [280].
(1) James was born in Heanor, Derbyshire on 20 September 1834 and died 7 August 1919. His father was a clergyman.
