Married 28 July 1951. Mary Isobel Greenwood of Colne, Lancs.
Philip was educated at Imperial Service College, Windsor and Royal Military College Sandhurst. He was commissioned into the Indian Army - 13th Frontier Force Rifles on 31 January 1930 (1). He resigned his commission on 19 October 1934 (2) and enlisted in the ranks of the Royal Air Force on 14 June 1938.
Philip served in the ranks, was promoted Corporal and commissioned Acting Pilot Officer on probation in the Administrative and Special Duties Branch of the RAF on 25 March 1941 (3). Promoted Flying Officer in March 1942 he served throughout the Second World War and retired from the service in 1945 as a Flight Lieutenant (4).
Philip is the twin brother of Cyril Moseley Townsend [6C28]. He was living at The Lhen, Hague Drive, Onchan, Isle of Man when he died.
