Notes for Dr Horace Montagu Dimock Townshend

Horace was born in Dublin and baptized at Leeson Park on 10 June 1878.

Horace studied at Trinity College, Dublin, and page 297 of the Trinity College Calendar 1906 records that he qualified BA in Winter 1900 and MD in Winter 1903. The brothers Thomas Henry Townsend [5A10] and Henry Denny Townsend [5A12] were undergraduates at the same time.

The April 1901 Irish Census shows Horace as a student at Trinity College, Dublin.

The following notice appeared in the London Gazette 28392 page 4810 on 5 July 1910.

"NOTICE is hereby given, that the Partnership heretofore subsisting between us the undersigned; Duncan Gray Newton and Horace Montagu Dimock Townshend, practicing as Physicians. Surgeons, and General Medical Practitioners, at 197, Brookhill, in the city of Sheffield, under the style or firm of NEWTON AND TOWNSHEND, has been dissolved by mutual consent as and from the thirtieth day of June, 1910. All debts due and owing by the said late firm will be received and paid by the said Duncan Gray Newton, who will, after this date, carry on the said practice on his own account.—Dated this thirtieth day of June, 1910. D. GRAY NEWTON. H. M. DIMOCK TOWNSHEND.

Appointed a temporary Lieutenant on 15 November 1915 - London Gazette 29402 dated 14 December 1915 Horace resigned his commission exactly a year later London Gazette 29858 dated 8 December 1916.

Page 170 of the Dublin University Calendar Volume II 1917-1918 records that Horace was living at Belmont Lodge, New Eltham, Kent.
