Martha was born in Limerick.

Married 1st in the parish Church of St Peter's, Dublin on 20 April 1881. Rev Robert Wilkes Gosse (2) of Bratton St Maur (Bratton Seymour), Wincanton, Somerset. Married 2nd 1901, George E Norton (3), sometime Mayor of Shaftesbury, Dorset.

The April 1901 Irish Census records that Martha, aged 41, was a widow living at house 27 in Corrig Avenue, Kingstown, Dublin with three spinsters.

Martha and George Norton lived at Clapton Farm, Maperton (4), Wincanton, Somerset from 1901 until at least 1911.

Martha died at Enmore Green, Shaftesbury.

Of the sons;

Ernest Gosse was born on 12 February 1882 in Hastings, Sussex and died from cancer on 22 June 1949 in Hood River, Oregon, USA where he was a farmer.

Alfred Gosse was born in 1883 in Nottingham and committed suicide in 1902 in Wincanton.

George Edmund Gosse Norton was born about 1905 in Burnham, Somerset. He died on 8 December 1987 at his home in Enmore Green.

(2) Robert appears to have written a biography of the Swiss 16th Century reformer Ulric Zwingle who disagreed with Luther on some fundamental tenets of Christianity. Robert died in 1899 in Bahia, Brazil, shortly after going there to be Consular Chaplin.

(3) A 'George E Norton, aged 1' is shown in the 1861 census living in the parish of Motcombe between Mere and Shaftesbury. He is the son of Thomas Norton, aged 43, Farmer, 40 acres, of Enmore Green, Shaftesbury.
