Notes for Eleanor Townsend

Married on 23 September 1897 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (1). Henry Kenning was a Salvation Army Minister who emigrated to the USA via Ellis Island and Eleanor followed later. Records of their crossings can be seen at the Ellis Island site.

It is not known where they settled except that at sometime they lived in Springfield, Massachusetts. However a 'Genforum Genealogy' website message posted on 22 July 2005 possibly refers to Eleanor's husband, though the dates don't match very well. It reads - "I have been working on a history project that caused me to do some work on Henry Kenning. He was a minister with the Christian and Missionary Alliance (CMA) in the late 1890's and early 1900's. He pastored a church in Hopeville Ontario some time prior to 1903. He then went to New York where he worked directly for A.B. Simpson the founder of the CMA and a famous evangelist. Simpson was also from Canada. Henry Kenning took a church called "Peace Chapel" in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1909 and it appears he was there for 3-4 years. The city directory shows him living at Crestwood Street during that time."

Eleanor died of cancer and Henry died in a car accident.
