Married 1st Henrietta Florence Fraser (1) daughter of Rev J Fraser. Married 2nd 21 April 1884 at St Peter's, Dublin. Annie Mason was the daughter of Dr Thomas P Mason MD (2) (3) of 74 Harcourt Street, Dublin. JP.
Like his brother Thomas Courtenay Townsend [5B02], his uncle Charles Uniacke Townsend [5C00] and his cousin Charles Loftus Townsend [5C01], William was a Dublin land agent with offices at 22, Lower Pembroke Street.

Page 666 of the Calendar of Wills and Administration 1858-1922 in the National Archives of Ireland records that the will of "Henrietta Florance Townshend late of late of Rush House", who died on 29 December 1882, was proved at the Principal Registry on 25 October 1887 by "William C Townsend of the same place Esquire JP Husband". Effects £566 14s.
