The 1851 England census records Thomas, aged 9, living in Pitt Street, Liverpool.
He is not shown in the 1861 census. It seems that he emigrated to the USA for the Liverpool Mercury of 21 Dec 1864 records the death of his wife in "St Louis, Missouri, aged 21, Vianla, wife of Mr Thomas Dyke Townsend, grandson of the late Mr William Dyke of 184, Pitt Street, Liverpool."
