Under the Dunmanway heading on page 210 of Francis Guy’s County & City of Cork Directory 1875-76 there is an entry - "Townsend, Samuel Ardmartin". This could refer to Samuel or his very distant cousin Samuel Philip Townsend [6A11].
Samuel died in Cobh. Entry in the diary of Agnes Townsend [334] - 'March 4 1880 Sam H Townsend Queenstown died'. Page 712 of The Calendar of Wills and Administration 1858-1922 in the National Archives of Ireland records that Letters of Administration of the personal estate of "Samuel Townsend late of Queenstown", who died on 4 March 1880, were granted at Cork on 28 April 1877 to "Annabella Townsend of the same place Widow and Mother of said deceased". Effects under £2,000.
