Notes for Judith May Townsend

Judith was baptized in St George's Church, Dublin on 13 August 1841.

Married 1864, as his second wife, Professor Edward Townsend [6B20], 4th son of Rev Thomas Townsend [6B03] Rector of Mayo.

The April 1901 Irish Census records Judith, aged 59, as married and living at house 7 in Town Parks, Galway West, Galway, with her son William Townsend [6B31]. Judith's husband Eward is not shown in the Census and must have been out of the country at the time. Neither of them are shown in the 1911 Irish Census.

Judith administered her father's estate. Page 854 of The Calendar of Wills and Administration 1858-1922 in the National Archives of Ireland records that Letters of Administration of the personal estate of "John Sealy Townsend late of 29 Blessington Street Dublin BL", who died on 27 April 1883, were granted at the Principal Registry on 5 July 1883 to "Judith Eleanor Anne Townsend Queens College Galway (wife of Edward Townsend Professor in said College) the Child". Effects Nil. How strange that a barrister should die without making a valid will and without any effects!

Agnes Townsend [334] shows Edward as 'Iney' and from her diaries it can be deduced that Martha Katherine Townsend [6B40] was Edward and Judith's daughter.
