Notes for Mary Becher Townshend
Mary was born at the family property 'Summerville' in the Wollombi Valley, NSW, Australia.
Aged 18 she was appointed Postmistress at the new Post Office at Laguna on 3 October 1862. (Her father Jonas Morris Townsend  had spent much time prior to his death lobbying the Government for a post office.) Mary later took a teaching post but resigned this and her appointment as postmistress when she married. Her mother took over as postmistress.
Married on 6 April 1872 at her home in Laguna (1). Charles Boult (2), eldest son of Charles Boult of Liverpool, England, came from Sydney and was headmaster of Lambton Primary School, Newcastle 1888-96.
Mary died at Parramatta, NSW.

Additional information has been provided by Jenny Stiles from Australia who is a descendant of John Becher (b. 6 Apr 1700 d. 1738) of Creagh and Mary Townsend  through their son Michael (b. ca 1735 d. Aug 1778).
