Notes for Professor Richard Henry Denny Townsend.

Married 18 May 2002 at Greenwich Registry Office. Jennifer Rachel Lucas was the younger daughter of Richard C Lucas of Frewsburg, New York and Sandra N Lucas of Syracuse, New York.

Richard was educated at Sherborne and New College, Oxford (BA 1st class honours in Physics June 1994). Following this he studied astrophysics at University College, London (UCL) and was awarded his PhD ('Non-radial pulsation in early type stars') in 1997. For this work he won the Royal Astronomical Society's prize for the best thesis of the year. Richard worked briefly for Voluntary Service Overseas in Tuna, northern Ghana, and then at Reuters UK before returning to UCL to undertake further study into the activity of early type stars.

In July 2003 Richard left UCL to take up an appointment to continue his research work at the University of Delaware. Subsequently, in July 2008, he relocated to Wisconsin, following his appointment as Assistant Professor of Astronomy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A more detailed description of his research can be seen on his personal website.
