Notes for Marjorie Townshend
The 1911 Irish Census records that Marjorie, aged 5, was living at Derry, Rosscarbery, Co Cork, with her parents, her two sisters, two children’s nurses, a ladies maid, cook and three domestic servants. Derry consisted of 22 rooms, 11 stables, a coach house, a harness room and a further 22 outbuildings.
Marjorie was living at Myross when her father died in February 1943 and continued to do so after the house was sold to Mr Cleary later that year. She remained there until 1947 when the house was sold to the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart for $4,200, when she moved to Ardagh Cottage in the grounds of the property.
Marjorie died at Ardagh Cottage and is buried at Brade Church, Myross Wood and the inscription on her headstone reads "In Loving Memory of MARJORIE SECOND DAUGHTER OF WILLIAM TOWER TOWNSHEND AND GERALINE EMILY TOWNSHEND BORN OCTOBER 5 1905 DIED SEPTEMBER 25 1983”.
