Notes for Elizabeth Townsend

Elizabeth was born in Mallow, co Cork.

Married 1820. Samuel Harrison (1) of Greybrook,(2) Co Cork. Elizabeth died at Queenstown, Cork. 'An Officer of the Long Parliament' shows the husband as Samuel Harris.

The date of 1864 for Elizabeth's death is drawn from the birth, marriage and death records in the Mallow Heritage Centre. Agnes Townsend [334] records in her diary - '1886 29 Oct Mrs Harrison died'. It is not clear whether this refers to Elizabeth.

(1) The entry for Harrison (Greybrook) in the University of Galway Landed Estates Database records "Samuel Harrison held the townland of Sraleigh, 164 acres in the parish of Inishkenny, barony of East Muskerry, county Cork, at the time of Griffith's Valuation. Vere Lloyd held 107 acres of the townland from Harrison and occupied another house valued at £13. In 1820 Samuel Harrison married Elizabeth Townsend, daughter of Thomas Townsend of Clyda, Mallow, and his wife Martha Uniacke."

(2) The entry for Greybrook in the University of Galway Landed Estates Database records "A house occupied by Samuel Harrison at the time of Griffith's Valuation and held from Ambrose Hickey. It was valued at £15.10 shillings. Greybrook Villa and 50 acres was held on a lease dated 1857 from Samuel Harrison to William Edward Leche and occupied by Edward Corah. Leche's interest was advertised for sale in March 1863 and Corah's in August 1865."
