Nothing is known about William except that he is buried in Aughadown Upper Graveyard.
Page 549 of the Calendar of Wills and Administration 1858-1922 in the National Archives of Ireland records that the will of "William Townsend late of Whitehall County Cork Gentleman", who died on 27 May 1869 at the same place, was proved at Cork on 27 September 1869, by "the oath of Charles Palmer Lawton of Aughadown (Skibbereen) in said county Cork Gentleman one of the Executors".
