Notes for Richard Edward Townsend (Rick)
Rick was born in Vancouver, BC, Canada. He attended Sir Sanford Fleming Elementary and John Oliver Secondary before going to theUniversity of British Columbia where he graduated BA in English and got his teaching certificate.
Richard's teaching career was spent in Vancouver were he taught English at Templeton Secondary until 1988, counseled at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary from September 1988 to June 1997 and was a Vice-Principal at Churchill for 3 years, as well as at Sir Charles Tupper and Point Grey Secondary schools. He completed an Education Masters degree in Curriculum Development in 1981 and, later, half a Masters in Counseling Psychology.
On 28 June 1969 he married Carol Ann Anthony, daughter of Frank and Ann Anthony. In 1972, they were blessed with a daughter, Michelle Ann, and, in 1975, a second daughter, Crista Nicole.
Throughout his teenage years and adult life, Rick participated in a variety of sports including fastball, football (the North American kind), basketball, table tennis, badminton, golf and even a year of cricket. He worked his way through university with summer jobs in a local sawmill, owned by his maternal grand-father and uncle. He retired in 2002 after 33 years in the Vancouver Secondary education system. His interests include photography, travel, home improvements and landscaping, motorcycles (dirt and street) and, since retirement, a little more golf.
