Alvin was born on the family farm, Howick (Huron Co.) Gorrie, Ontario.
Married on 5 April 1947 in Gorrie, Ontario. Margaret Field came from Wesley, Bradford, Yorkshire, England and was in the Royal Air Force (WAF's). Alvin was in the Royal Canadian Air Force and they met whilst he was stationed in the UK.
Al trained as a licensed mechanic and established his own garage business.
