Notes for John Thomas Townsend
John was born in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
Married 19 April 1911 at Dows, Iowa. Inez Dean Gardner (1) was the daughter of Charles and Sean Jane Martin.
John and Inez lived at Clarion, Iowa until 1919 when they moved to Winterset, Iowa, to farm in Madison County. In 1936 they moved into town and entered the retail business - Townsend Maytag Store and later Townsend Seed Store.
John died of a heart attack at Winterset, Iowa
(1) Inez was born at Troy Mills, Iowa on January. 26, 1891. She died at the Bethesda Care Centre following a fall on 3 August 1986 and was buried in the Winterset Cemetery on 5 August. Inez attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Madison County Antique Club, the 60 Plus Club and the Kitchen Band. (2) Between 1992 and 1997, Gracie Townsend [3B27] extensively researched members of the family descended from Richard Townsend [335]. This work has been invaluable in compiling the records of those concerned.
