Notes for Richard Townsend
Richard was born in Dunmanway, Co Cork, Ireland.
Following the death of his parents in 1847 shortly after their arrival in Canada from Ireland, when Richard would have been aged 13, Richard 's younger siblings were placed in care with guardians appointed by the authorities in Ontario. However, it is not known whether he was similarly placed.
There is no mention of Richard in the 1852 Canadian Census.
Sadly, nothing is known about Richard. The Extract from Lewis Topographical Dictionary 1837 for Fanlobbus (Dunmanway) is given in Richard's 'Scrapbook' and shows Richard's father living at Laurel Mount - presumably where Richard was born.
