Notes for Jane Townsend

Married at St Stephen's Church, Dublin on 25 April 1867. Rev Richard Jones DD (1) second son of the Rev Jonas Travers Jones, Rector of Kilmacabea, Ross, Co Cork. Richard was the elder brother of Rev Jonas Jones of Baltimore who married Annie Johnson Townsend [439].

The marriage certificate shows Jane living at 54 Leeson Street, Dublin, the home of her brother Reverend Richard Townsend [337].

(1) Richard Jones's family lived at Drombeg near Glandore for nearly two centuries in one of the oldest houses in that part of the country, having been built in 1703 by Henry Jones, a descendant of Henry Jones, a major in Cromwell's army, who settled in Bandon. Richard Jones was educated at the Diocesan School, Rosscarbery and entered Trinity College Dublin in 1851. BA 1856. MA 1872. DD 1879. He was ordained Deacon in 1856 and Priest in 1857, both at Cork. He was Curate of Cape Clear in 1856; of Carrigaline in 1859; of Aghadown in 1860; of Kilmoe in 1864 and of Youghal in 1865. Prebendary of Inniscarra, in Cloyne Cathedral, 1872. Richard died suddenly at Youghal on the 12 March 1901 aged 68 years. His biographical details can be seen in Reverend John Harding Cole's Church and Parish Records of the United Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross 1863-1903 on page 257.
