Adding input of energy to the Sun

Post by pau » Thu Sep 29, 2022 2:03 pm

Dear all,

I would like to take our Sun, give it an input of energy corresponding to about 1e-3% its binding energy and then let it evolve and analyse the pulsations. I.e. like we compress the Sun and then let it go. It will start pulsating.

I would like to investigate how the pulsations evolve over time. Is this something that can be done with GYRE? I just installed it and did some test runs, everything seems to be in place but I am lost as how to cope with this particular problem.

Ideally a detailed explanation would be perfect but any input would be very much appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

By the way, as for "hitting" the surface of the star to see how it responds, that's a lot like how solar-type oscillations are produced.
In this case, the connective motions "hit" the surface of the star and cause its oscillations. Can I regulate such "hits"? Thanks!
