Creating a binary model

Post by sena2703 » Wed Aug 08, 2018 11:10 am

Dear Gyre users:

I am new on GYRE. I obtained a model using MESA and want to study the pulsation and vibration of this system.

Is it possible to use GYRE for this ? If yes, how i can create a binary model (M1 - M2 and period )

Thanks
Abdel

Hi, Abdel

In the long run, GYRE will be able to model the tidal effect on stellar oscillations.

For now, if you want to study free oscillations, you can just use stellar structure models from single or binary star evolution of MESA and feed them into GYRE assuming the effect of tides is negligible. If you want to model the tidally excited oscillations, please refer to the recent paper by Guo et al. 2017, ApJ, 834, 59 and Fuller 2017, MNRAS, 472, 1538.

best regards,
Zhao
