Why radial displacement larger than 1 ?

Post by cdd » Wed Mar 18, 2020 9:29 am

Hi,

I use gyre_tasc5 package to calculate the displacement and find in the xi_r, both re and im part of it can be larger than 1. But as the description of xi_r: "the xi_r array contains the corresponding surface radial displacements, in units of the stellar radius. these are complex quantities, encoding both amplitude and phase", it is in units of stellar radius and should not larger than 1. So i'm puzzled with this. Attached file is the model file i get from mesa and i calculate l=2, m=0 mode, the other input parameters just like in the example gyre_force.in file.
And another question is that the phase of xi_r means the orbital phase? Whether the formula to calculate the phase is abs(xi_r.im/xi_r.re) = tan(phase) or anything else?
Thank you for any help in advance!

Best Regards
Chen
