TITLE: Optical Variability of Quasars AUTHORS: D. Trevese, A. Bunone, D. Nanni, M. A. Bershady, R. G. Kron PUBLISHED: to appear in "National Meeting on AGNs," (Italy), Mem. Soc. Astron. It. ABSTRACT: The variability of quasars can be used both to constrain the emission model and to identify quasar candidates. We report recent progresses in the optical variability studies based on deep U, B(J), F photometry in Selected Area 57, which show the wavelength dependence of quasar variability. We also present some preliminary results on the selection of a sample of active galaxies on the basis of their variability.
