A wave on a pond is a disturbance in the water level which represents a concentration of energy (the waves can do work), in this case produced by the deposition of energy caused by throwing a rock into the water.
	An electromagnetic wave is a combined disturbance in an electric and magnetic field such that the waves travel in perpendicular planes. Like water waves, electromagnetic waves have a wavelength, amplitude, and speed of propagation.
