Horologium
Position in the Sky
Horologium was named by Abbé
Nicolas Louis de Lacaille. It was originally named Horologium
Oscillitorium to honor Christian Huygens, the inventor of the pendulum
clock in 1656-57. Like many of de Lacaille's other cumbersome
constellation names, Horologium Oscillitorium was shortened in modern
times. Huygens is also famous for discovering Saturn's rings.
