Dorado
Position in the Sky
Dorado was named by Johann Bayer.
Although I have said above that Dorado is the Swordfish, it is more
correctly translated as the Goldfish. This far south constellation is
not named after the pet goldfish, but after the mahi-mahi, a Hawaiian
fish. Some old star atlases call this constellation Xiphias, the
Swordfish
Dorado contains part of the Large Magellanic Cloud, an irregular
galaxy that orbits the Milky Way.
