Research Interests:

I’m a theoretical astrophysicist with a specialty in plasma astrophysics. I study how magnetic fields evolve and interact with astrophysical systems from plasma scales to cosmic scales. Cosmic rays, which exist because of magnetic fields, are especially interesting to me.

Biography:

I did my undergraduate work in Mathematics, at U. Chicago, and my graduate work in Astrophysical Sciences, at Princeton. I was a faculty member at Univ. Colorado from 1980 to 2003, when I moved to Wisconsin to take a  joint appointment in the Astronomy and Physics Departments.  This is a minimalist sketch because I live faster than I update my web page, but if you want more information, please contact me. To view my publications, go to ADS and check the "Physics" box as well as the "Astronomy" box.
